the wretched creatures to death. This story was teld as a fine

exploit to be commended. The province is going through the

triple ordeal of starvation, terture and death but there is a

promise of a good harvest in July which will relieve the famine

conditions. As at present divided I see no possibility of the

rebellion of which we have recurring rumours, but should these

lawless robber companies produce a capable leader, under when

all the bands might join, then anything is possible in the pre-

sent state of unrest and discontent in the Southern provinces.
